You Had to Be There

This line is an automatic dis-qualifier of what ever type of story or event you are trying to convey.

For example, if you are trying to tell a funny story, and after telling it nobody is laughing and even you are only laughing a fraction you did the first time, then feel the need to say "you had to be there", this is an IMMEDIATE indication that the event your talking about was NOT funny.

So if it was supposedly exciting, sad, good, bad, funny or maddening, yet you feel th need to say "you had to be there", then it wasn't. You'd be lucky if it was even a fraction of what you thought it was.

So next time someone says "you had to be there" you can say "I'm glad I wasn't, because it seems it would have been boring as shit."
