I'm not listening!

If you don't see anything wrong with what that says then you are a massive tool. But just in case you end up being a tool and are reading anyway I will explain. Take note of the *Any negative comments will be discarded* comment there. Is this not complete bull shit? Your just going to flat out dismiss anything bad I have to say about the GM's? and then take any thats positive? IF they thought that any comments made about GM's would be biased wouldn't they have to deny the good ones too? I can see how someone who got the losing end of a dispute with a GM would talk shit about them to an incredible extent, but I doubt they would even get a request for feedback since its highly doubtful they sent in the ticket.

You think negative comments from players would be their main concern while comments from co-workers or rather other GM's would be dismissed. We are essentially the customers in a service industry. And in a lot of cases GM's don't interact a whole lot. its like if you were a doctor and they didn't take anything the patient said bad about the doctor seriously.

I was kind of extra pissed because while the GM solved my problem he acted kind of like a dick. Would keep spamming me with "are you there?"'s and "hello?"'s if I didn't answer in 5 seconds. Then he kept typing extremely informal, with lots of shorthand and weird quirks. Now i find out if I mention any of this they are going to tell me to fuck off. So instead what I did is talked about those extensively in the comment boxes like he didn't do them at all.

"Didn't screw up his grammar at all. He also didn't act like some L33t speaking kid that got a hold of GM tools. Also he didn't spam me every 5 seconds asking if I was there while I was in the middle of instance. that would have been really annoying and made me angry, but he sure didn't do it. He also wasn't slow with hes responses when I actually responded it a decently prompt manner."

Polish This

I have come to realize I often am unimpressed or flat out hate a lot of games the mainstream likes. Its extremely disturbing especially since I don't hate them out of some kind of rebellion not to conform or some dumb shit. Far as I can these reasons are why I do hate them. I'll try and use BioShock as an example.

Polish: This has to be the biggest reason. I don't hate games with polish its that other people seem to cum all over the place when a game does have polish. A game that is "just fine in every way", kind of like a mediocre video game version of Mary Poppins. Look at BioShock, in every review "awesome gameplay" was never a chief reason why the game was good, how it got anywhere near a score of 10/10 or 5/5 without gameplay being the only thing they rave about is beyond me. It had all the elements of a shooter and worked just fine, shot it up to at least 8/10. Whooptie shit.

Meanwhile if a game is just fine but tries to use a different hook or angle, it gets its balls cut off because its not the way the reviewer would have done it or they saw some other game do something half way like it and just call it a rip off.

Sound: This is kind of exclusive to BioShock but apparently if you play the greatest hits from the 50's and 40's all the time and make it sound like its going through a PA system you have the best music ever in a video game. Again this would be about 1/3 of all reviews I read. Personally the only time sound and/or music would have a impact on a review for me is if it was extremely shitty or if it was a music based game and the music was average at best. Otherwise I don't give a shit.

Reviewers in general seem to be assholes or morons. I'm convinced the bulk of them are writers playing video games instead of what it should be, hardcore gamers writing reviews. You can almost always find a review of any game and find one that looks like the reviewer is pissed that it has to review games and is set off by the slightest problems or bad learning curve. This is probably why they score games with polish so high, anything that makes their review job easier becomes god. Its like getting half day off work or having a meeting in a vacation spot. A suddenly ordinary thing becomes great because it makes the overall experience easier opposed to the task at hand being great itself.

Mouse Comparison

Nice thing about not being affiliated with anyone means I can totally shit on who ever I want, any product I want without having to be nice about it so here is goes!

I will be comparing the Razer Diamondback 3G mouse against the discontinued Microsoft optical trackball. right off the bat, I think the Microsoft mouse is better in every way except for two, and these are technical reasons. So theres my review if you don't like reading.

Razer Diamondback G3

Microsoft Optical Trackball

So what are the 2 better things about the Diamondback?

It has 2 more buttons

Not better but "greater" in the sense of quantity. These buttons are inconveniently placed on the sides of the mouse, directly opposite each other. If you want to use one you tend to use leverage from the exact opposite side, hitting another button. You either do that or a odd "palm cupping" maneuver to the top of the mouse. Either way you can't really hit the buttons quickly or at the very least comfortably unless you have your main fingers completely abandon their position of the main buttons, moving your entire hand.

As you can see in the picture the trackball puts the buttons right next to your main fingers, close enough so you won't break your fingers trying to get to them, out of the way enough so you don't accidentally hit them.

Better DPI and precision.
Meaning it is basically more accurate with movement. So its perfect for those 4 shooter games that need a precise mouse to move your scope on your sniper rifle at maximum magnification. Clearly worth $50. Get fucking serious.

Apparently its also good for things like photoshop editing but if I need to be precise I either use one of the built in tools or my wacom tablet. So if you snipe a lot and use image editing programs sparingly I suppose this would be a good mouse for you if you want that DPI.

Now here I could simply say, everything else the diamondback mentions as a feature, the optical trackball is better. But its more fun and I get to shit on the diamondback a lot more if I write it out.

MACRO SYSTEM
The diamondback macro system is a fucking joke. It basically pops up this 1x1 inch white text window you type keyboard keys in, doesn't accept any mouse commands. On top of which theres a about a 1 second delay before what ever macro kicks in. Games that don't know to wait for your macros don't work with these very well. See example: all of them.

Meanwhile the microsoft macro system is probably the best one I have ever seen, at least top 2. and not just for mice, macro programs in general. Well legit ones anyway. It takes mouse commands and delays as well as keyboard ones. Below is the menu equivilant to the menu of the diamondback.

As you can see the Microsoft menu is much more robust. But it doesn't have cool menus and colors so clearly, it sucks and the razer one is better. Get fucking serious.

BUILT-IN MACROS
"But Dionysus, what about the built in macros? Surely Razer thought of good gaming macros being the uber gamer ass kissers they are?"
Don't ever interrupt me again fucker, and no they did not provide good built in macros or features. Microsoft either meets or beats them in this regard. first the Razer menu.

To be clear the menu button is equivalent of the menu button on a keyboard, and Advanced simply brings up the macro editor I showed you before. Now the Microsoft equivalent.

wow look at all those options built in. and just like the diamondback you can even reassign the normal buttons like left and right click to anything you want.

"but what about the on the fly-"
NOPE! Microsoft has that too. You can either use the built in precision booster and make one with the macro system.

I'm sure I will think of more stuff about the Diamondback 3G that sucks ass later, but for now I'll end it here.

I'm available, but leave me alone!

This is a kind of esoteric gripe but I'm gonna do it anyway.

Why the fuck do people leave messengers on if they don't want people talking to them? I've seen this on 3 different messenger systems but mostly on xfire because I use that the most. People will leave it signed in, yet have a message saying to not talk to them...what? Am I wrong in wanting to just spam the shit out of their messenger for doing this incredibly dumb shit? This isn't like a telephone being left plugged in and being pissed people keep calling you. Messengers are a luxury, a tool of communication used by choice. not many people can get by without ever using a phone, so the opposite is true for a phone. If you do leave it unplugged a lot, why the fuck have one?

If I ever spam the shit out of one of these people I'll be sure to report the results. Probably might not be that interesting, but I might just do it to someone who has as much free time as me and see some results.

I Hate Public Forums

I have to say the forums over at mmorpg.com have finally given me a solid stance on public forums. I see a lot of dumb forums but this has got to be the dumbest forum I have come across.

First you MUST align yourself with every game in a way of complete hate to the point where your criticisms of a game don't even make sense, but people will rally behind them anyway. Or be a complete fanboi of a game that follow the game that a fundamentalist Christian couldn't compare in dedication.

Second, you must make sure that every argument you have is either tired or just wrong. the backlash to this is there are people who refuse to listen to any positive or negative argument if they heard it "too many times", and refuse to acknowledge as part of your argument, and demand you provide an opinion they have never heard before.

For example, if you say you don't like the quests in a game, they will dismiss it outright because they heard it before, and then shit talk you for not have enough support for your negative view of the game. Provide enough evidence and they will simply slander you opposed to arguing the points you put forth. They usually do this by presenting something you said in a negative tone, even if its a perfectly good position. "oh sure we could listen to someone who played the game for the majority of the time its been released, but in my opinion, fuck him."

Third, if you are going to be foolish enough to try and argue with things like "proof" or "facts" be sure they are of the bullshit, made-up variety, otherwise if you have facts that are contrary to what they assumed, they will call you liar without any counter evidence. Assumptions and rumors hold much more weight than any press release or report ever could in these forums.

Other public forums of a multi-genre or multi-game variety also have these problems in varying degrees. So I have been forced to actually go to forums that focus on one game alone and are crawling with fanboi's but also have moderate supporters of the game but realize any game can be improved upon. These are the only places an actual conversation can be had and useful information about a game acquired. Though you have to take a lot of the positive posts with a grain of salt, or a entire salt mine as the case may be.

Again these forums must be isolated from other game forums, lest a "rival" game supporter get a wild hair up there ass and decide to come post shit talking about a game for no reason, with all the negative discussion formats mentioned earlier in their arsenal.

Quests - Easy mode or just logic

I am officially pissed off at how quests are done in MMOG's these days. rarely do you see the majority of missions/quests in a game done properly. I'll start with the "waypoint" debate.

People say waypoints make quests too easy and its a game on "easy mode." Thats fucking retarded. If someone wanted you to go out and save someone for them or just gather 5 flowers, if they truly wanted it done they would give you as much information as possible. they would NOT just say "get 5 flowers" and provide no other information on how to acquire them yet give you a 2 page backstory of WHY they need them.

They would tell you where to get them, what they look like, mark that shit on your map if you had one (waypoint), tell you what exact dangers are there if any, and might even give you some tools to do it faster.

Now I have no problem with games not using waypoints, thats just fine. But they better damn well give good directions, or at least ANY directions on how or where to get what they are asking for. Again, simply asking for something with no information on how to get it is BULLSHIT. If it says South west of the tower, it better fucking be SOUTH-WEST of the tower. NOT South by south-west NOT go south then hook a quick turn west. EXACTLY SOUTH-FUCKING-WEST of the SOUTH-WEST corner of the tower.

Now admittedly there are times when even this amount of direction isnt needed. When you enter "wolf forest" go down the "wolf path" and hop skip and jump over 10 wolves to get to a person asking you to kill 10 wolves, direction really isn't needed. But if they want something specific, the information better be EQUALLY SPECIFIC. If they want a certain wolf that happens to also look like all the other wolves, and not give me a location<---THATS BULLSHIT. My first reaction would be that this fucker is lying and this thing doesn't exist, but since someone put the time to make the quest in the game yet didn't feel the need to make, I dunno, good, I can only assume this unique yet incredibly ordinary wolf exists.

In short, there isn't one fucking good reason why a quest wouldn't have some sort of lead or location for completion of said quest. Waypoint or text. Pick one and use it you lazy fucks.

First!

Yes, probably the most famous and useless comment or post that is made on the internet 'first!'

Its only appropriate that I title my first entry this, since most of my posting will deal with the most idiotic things that I come across while playing pretty much every MMOG I can get my hands on, as well as the internet in general.

So check often, because I come across a lot of dumb crap. Join me, and share in developing an ulcer as we have to put up with the massive onslaught of retarded keyboard slappers that can not be avoided completely.
