Dionysus187's Meaning of Beta

I thought so for some time, that most people didn't know what beta's were for, but only lately has it become more clear with the amount of MMO's in beta testing.

Seems people fail to realize that beta is NOT a finished game, and major changes can and most likely WILL occur. I don't even argue with people anymore when they start passing judgment on a game when its in any kind of closed beta, because this behavior is a clear sign they are too far gone and wouldn't understand no matter the amount of explanation. If your not running into bugs, game breaking elements and random crashes while playing a beta, there is something very WRONG going on. therefore, bitching about such events makes you a dumbshit. Reporting them in detail makes you a good tester. Its kind of funny in a way to see these people complain to no end when everyone else is having the same problem, yet their not whining like a little bitch. Creating this huge segment of people reflecting how you should be acting, yet the dumbshit is so busy being a masochist doing something he obviously doesn't enjoy to see what the hell is going on.

Open beta is a completely different animal. It is mainly for word of mouth and free advertising, while they test the limits of their servers capacity. It also ups the odds of people doing something that can break the game, since there are just more people. Its really the only way to test what would happen if a shit ton of people were playing the game like it was released.

Some games fuck up both these areas by inviting too many people during closed beta. The aforementioned "dumbshits" see the game extremely unpolished and spout about it breaking the NDA's like the game has been out for a year and will never ever get better. Also you get people who play the game early on, and don't bother playing open beta, fucking up the chance to get as many people on the servers to test them before release.

Surprisingly though I don't care about the testers who get in and just use it as free play time and don't "test", because believe it or not their still contributing jusy by acting liek a regular player, and they usually realize their geting a free ride so they don't have much room to whine.
